Fishbowl!
Every single fishbowl in class just got better and better that I cannot even pick which one I liked the most! I found this idea of teaching to be very fun and engaging which made me really enjoy the topics that were up for discussion. I loved how each person had different ideas and beliefs which made each and every conversation very open-minded which I love. This style of teaching is much better than just a professor reading word for word from the textbook, this shows character and enthusiasm. I loved the one we had outside, it was such a perfect day and Dean sat underneath the Chery blossom tree. I feel that I was very involved with these talks which made me enjoy the conversations and class even more!

A Streetcar Named Desire PowerPoint!
Wow I loved this one! I read this play a couple of years ago and hated it. I believed that the play was so sexually oriented that it disgusted me. However, Professor Mignano-Brady showed me the in-depth symbolism and meaning through the use of her PowerPoint. The idea of illusion intrigued me and honestly made me start questioning everything! The use of the movie was remarkable! Everything from the acting and the cinematography was just amazing. It also showed me the physical reactions of the characters in a much better way than what I imagined from reading the play.

Poetry!
This was by far the best unit in the class! I never really understood poetry until this unit. I was taught how you are supposed to listen to poetry and not read it. This makes me like poetry even more now. The amount of symbolic meaning in each word truly baffles me. Over the summer I will plan on going to a poetry gathering in the city to see it in person. The clips from live events and the poem P.O.W was so beautiful to me. I felt like I was submersed with the symbolic truth of life. I love poetry so much I even wrote my own! It is about the one percent in America, the rich of the rich, who control everything and let the poor get poorer. I call it The Circle.

No money ever breaks off from the circle

Families who work hard, who don't have food on the table

Don't feed in into their lies, open your eyes just a little

No money ever breaks off from the circle

They steal your money for their revenue

People dying while they are buying up on 6th Avenue

No money ever breaks off from the circle

Pub #2 - "It's Just An Illusion"

Pub #2 - "It's Just An Illusion" "Limits, like fear, is often an illusion." -Michael Jordan Don Mahalli Professor Mignano-Brady English 102 7 March 2018 Pub #2 - "It's Just An Illusion" The uprising in the extreme attention of perfection in modern and postmodern society, within the arts of mass media, contributes to an illusion of the real world. Multi-Billion dollar companies like Victoria's Secret hire attractive women and then edit pictures and videos to make the perfect people, more perfect. However, the models live in a lie of perfection believing that they are flawless and perfect based on what society values and perceives. In reality, these models are on extremely dangerous low calorie meals and “ more than 75 percent of models had been exposed to alcohol and/or drugs on the job”(The Model Alliance). As seen in the play A Streetcar Named Desire, Stella states “I couldn't go on believing h...

Reflection - English 102

Reflection  Solomon P. Ortiz, a former United States Representative, once stated “Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students.” I cannot even begin to express the amount of respect and appreciation I had for both the English 102 class and for Professor Mignano-Brady. This was the first time in my educational life where I was not penalized for thinking outside of the box. Throughout my middle and high school experience, English teachers despised me for interpreting works of literature that differed from the textual interpretation. Thankfully, in English 102, I was set free from these boundaries. It truly made me comfortable and enthusiastic in expressing my soulful beliefs, and for that I thank you professor. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated: “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” This class has taught me that I am more than what I think I am. The way I felt with every positive comment, ...
